It was a simple suggestion on Tracey's part, "Just bring your guitar next Thursday and let's put a coffee house set together." He and I had been working together on his band Spinning Plates, an electro-jazz improv trio. I was the video artist. My work hung above their heads and I made instant movies to accompany the soundtrack. An odd way to work but always a thrill. So I set up my mic and guitar and said, "This one goes like this..."
52 songs later we've gone full circle about 3 times on whether we're a coffeehouse act or as Sid calls it "A rock group clawing to get out."
Tracey and I did manage to book a couple of shows as a duo and they were decidedly not coffee houses. The manager wanted more power so we'd need that critical third member on bass.
Sid joined us off and on for many months as Tracey and I struggled to define the band. We searched for that elusive bass player when KJ finally walked in, played a set and promptly turned us down.
"Boy if only he could hear what we did..." I thought. We searched on and then one day I just took the chance and called him back. Maybe we grew on him.
So our foursome has been together since December 2008 and now we point forward.
We're a wildly diverse group of seasoned musicians carving up the ghosts of our pasts to bring new life to these songs.
